Junior Big Game Hunting

Assembly Bill #: A 6752
Senate Bill # S 2869

Sponsors -
Senate -  Volker
Assembly - Smith

Creates Junior Big Game Hunting license for people between the ages of 14 and 16 years of age to hunt deer and bear during the hunting season while accompanied by an adult.

Points of Information
Presently some 26 states have no minimum age limit for any kind of hunting. New York is the only state that does not have a Junior Big Game Hunting License. Connecticut, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania allow 12-year olds to hunt big game. New Jersey allows 10-year olds to hunt big game with a firearm. In Vermont there is no age limit.
The NYSCC has taken positions on several bills. Here's a selection of the more pertinent issues.

Pistol Permit Fees -  An item in the Governor's Budget asks for the state to impose a pistol permit fee of $100, renewable every five years. Also, an extra $25 for amendments to permits. This would be in addition to local fees, which would be unlimited, according to budget request.
Needless to say, this is being strongly opposed by sportsmen groups all across the state.
